The first European JohannesAcademy Conference will be taking place on April 24th-27th, 2010 at The Hague. What better place for a young European to address the theme of “Commitment for Peace” than in Europe’s main location for UN and International Tribunals and Courts focusing on international peace?
Commitment
This four day Conference in the Netherlands will bring you together with students and young professionals from diverse European countries. Aided by university professors, experts and Brothers of Saint John, the uniting factor will be the search for truth leading each participant into a deeper and more personal understanding of the complexity and fragility of abiding peace. Through the interaction with youth from across Europe your commitment to peace will be awakened and challenged by the organised and balanced program. The full implications of choosing peace will become more and more apparent to you as you tackle the essential questions that it involves in our modern-day Europe?
Peace, development and justice
Why and how is my life as a human person only going to develop if I accept to be at the service of peace? Why is justice a necessary means to the attaining of peace? European international law, however, surely can’t succeed in peacefully encompassing nations that are so far apart in language, culture and social stability. If people are turning to terror to achieve their goals in the understanding that the law will not, why is that? It will be time worth spent looking into the heart of man to see why he seeks a solution to social unity through the diffusion of power. The Conference will also address the timeless question of peace and religion for surely it is by looking beyond man in his individuality that one could hope to find a common identity, the basis of stable and enduring relationships? What then does religion bring to the human person as regards any natural vocation he may have to peace?

Thank you so much for this intense week of teachings and wonderful experiences of debate and reflexions. The Hague was indeed a great location to treat of commitments for peace, justice, and our engagements as Christians in the international and european organisations.

the peace conference
We experienced a 4-day imprssive Peace Conference in the city of World justice. The subjects of peace and justice were broadly discussed and analysied in lectures with prominnent people and the brothers of Saint John. The activities and the vistis to ICTY, european commisioner and to the mosque were an important part to help us understand better justice and peace. The range of participant countries made the the whole thing more intersting with different aproaches to reality and new ideas. We prayed to the Lord that He could light our minds to help us in exploring the truth. We did not come up with concrete answers but with real questions, that will make us reflect during our journey in searching the truth. Better say this confernce form me was a short course for human development. I would like to express gartitude to those who made it possible in one or another and a big HELLO to all the participants. UNITED IN CHRIST

The coming years the JohannesAcademy will organize gatherings on a regular basis for European students and young professionals who want to reflect upon the future of society and their own personal commitment.
